21 Uncommon Romantic Gestures That Would Make Any Girl Melt

Thought Catalog

1. Play with her hair while the two of you are watching TV. It doesn’t have to be complex, just a little light head touching/hair-messing-with will put her into a near-meditative state.

2. Get your dessert to-go at the restaurant so the two of you can eat it at home while watching a movie/your favorite TV show.

3. Instead of just asking her where she wants to go for dinner — because you know that she loves when you put in the effort to choose, but is really picky when it comes to what she wants — give her three options that you want to go to (including one or two you haven’t tried before, if possible). It’s the best of both worlds.

4. If you spend the night at her place (or even if you share the place) make the bed while she’s in the shower or getting ready.

#5: Sembawang White Noodles

Hello there my friends!

It’s been quite some time since I last posted :/ Been pretty busy with school and the many other things along the way, but nonetheless, I’m back~

So for today’s feature, I’ll be talking about something local. Yes, local. In this little tiny red dot, Singapore prides itself by our FOOOOOOD! The variety, the culture, the mixture, just everything makes Singapore, well, Singapore!

I met up with J who is about fly back to Perth for school and he brought me to his favourite White Noodles store! What is White Noodles you may ask, it is somewhat like the typical Hokkien Mee (the fried version, not the soup-y version), just without the yellow mee. So the entire plate is filled with bee hoon (aka rice vermicelli) and topped with prawns, sotong (squid), cai xin, eggs and lime!

The lime is actually to give the extra boost of flavors to the dish! This is definitely worth the queue and waiting time! We headed there slightly after lunch time (around 1-ish pm) and there was still a crowd. They were THAT famous.

Taste wise, it really tasted like Hokkien Mee, just that it does not carry the mushy yellow mee taste. Let me explain, yellow mee contains ghee and hence when cooked, they have their own flavour and taste. So instead of having ghee in the noodles, rice vermicelli absorbs the sauce that they cooked together with the ingredients, and I’m guessing it should be being chicken or seafood stock.

Next up, we had Ai Yu Jelly! It’s an extremely refreshing drink / dessert. Ai Yu is actually made from gel from the seeds of a variety of figs. It looks like jelly and is mixed with lime juice and tons of ice to make it the perfect drink / dessert for a scorching hot day! They usually serve it in a bowl with a side of lime if you’d like the extra zest and kick to your dessert!

As with every zi char (and a specialty of theirs), we had Sambal Sweet Potato Leaves! Looking somewhat like Kang Kong, the taste of sweet potato leaves are different! With thinner and non-hollow stems, the dish is slightly slimy due to the stems, but no worries, it is still edible. Stir-fried with sambal chilli, this dish can be eaten on its own or paired with rice!

Last but not least, we also had another specialty, Ngoh Hiang! Ngoh Hiang, 五香, is a unique dish based on Hokkien and Teochew cultures. It is mainly filled with fish or prawn paste, together with tons of other ingredients and seasoned with five spices powder (五香粉) and wrapped with bean curd skin before getting deep fried. Most Nhog Hiang that I have tried usually has too much of the other ingredients or too thick a bean curd skin. However, the ones here never failed me! I was chewing on one and grabbing another almost instantly. Paired with Thai Chilli Sauce, this dish is a definite crowd pleaser!

Till next time!

#3: MEDZS

I met the great bunch of fellow diligent working family that would always give their all (literally, with all the lost voices) to making every camp the most memorable one for our “kids” aka freshies.

So we gave a treat, to ourselves, for doing such a great job. I mean come on, we need a break too, right? Since there were over 30 of us (yes, huge family, that’s right), we decided to go dutch and just head to MEDZS. Located at Millenia Walk, MEDZS has a similar concept to Marché, and serves up a range of mediterranean dishes and some to suit the local pallet.

At our table, we decided to order dishes and share among the group of us. I mean, makes sense right? At least it allows us to pinch a little of everything to satisfy our tummys. So for round one, here’s what we had,

  IMG_2098

First up, we had Truffle Fries. Come on, who doesn’t LOVE truffle fries? Lightly tinted with truffle oil on each fry and served with grated parmesan cheese, this was a crowd pleaser! Not forgetting the side of sauce, that we have no idea what it is made of except that there was truffle in it, it paired the fries just perfectly.

IMG_2099

Next up, we had Churros with a side of Caramel Dip. We have our love for dessert, so who cares about dessert first or mains first? As much as we were starving and in need of food, I guess Churros worked just right for us. Sadly, these skinny sticks didn’t quite make the cut as good churros. The caramel dip actually made it better.

IMG_2101

Next up, we have the Mixed Sausage Platter with Roasted Potatoes, Roasted Mushrooms and a side of garden veg. It’s weird that we had 3 versions of sausages, but they all tasted the same. We had chicken cheese sausage, veal sausage and pork sausage!

IMG_2103

After which, we had Bacon wrapped Sausages skewers! We were disappointed that it only came in 4s, we thought there would at least be 2 sticks or so. I guess it was good while it lasted? Hah.

IMG_2105

Last part of round one, Salami Pepperoni pizza! 12″ thin crust pizza, the best for that round I must say. Each slice was filled with just the right amounts of everything that it went so well together!

Greedy us decided to head for Round Two with little deliberation and we over-ordered! You’ll see why.

IMG_2109

First up, Mixed Seafood Paella. The seafood tasted a tad bit bland, sadly. Otherwise, the rice was pretty flavourful and the portion would be perfect for just one person. There was more ingredients to rice proportion wise, not that I’m complaining, but it would have been better if the seafood were well, more tasty.

This wasn’t part of our round two, but I had to take a photo of it. The HUGE beef sandwich that one of them ordered. Even guys had to split it into two. It is even bigger than my face. SERIOUS.

IMG_2111

Back to our round two, here’s the Ham and Mushroom Cabonara. HOORAY! My love for carbs (not a rice person), but pasta is om nom nom. I really do love pastas! This was a good combination, but my fav is still from Pepperoni Pizzeria, but that’s for another day.

Roasted Half Chicken.

Chicken Cheese Pizza

IMG_2120

Buttermilk Waffles, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, yay!

IMG_2123

Apple Crumble Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream. Warm and comfortable for the tummy, ultimate comfort desserts. I must also add, the berry compote is amazing. I could just eat an entire jar of it!

Talking about all these food is making me hungry at this timing, heh. Till next time my friends!

#2: Roosevelt’s

Hello there!

I hope your day has been a pretty good one! It’s back to school for me and I finally have the time to be back doing what I love most, cafe hopping!

As I’m still under the weather, I guess I don’t really have much of a choice in terms of what I can eat, but that ain’t gonna deter me from enjoying the pleasures of this world.

Made plans for a short catch up with C and she brought me to Roosevelt’s Diner and Bar! Located just next to Outram Park MRT Station, it is DEFINITELY extremely convenient for those who do not drive and travel via public transport.

A less than 2 minutes walk from the station, you turn right towards Dorsett Residences & tadah, Roosevelt is in front of you! Tucked at the side and in a corner, it would be easy to miss from the main road, so unless you’ve been there before, you wouldn’t be able to catch it.

We arrived during the lunch hour, at around 12ish 1pm and the store was pretty empty for a lunch crowd. I guess they cater mainly to dinner crowds and the hotel guests only, so lunch time is empty. (But that also means it is a good place for me to head over to study, heh).

After scrutinizing the menu and fluster over what I should have, I decided on the Smoked Ham and Candied Bacon sandwich! I was thinking it’ll be the typical sandwich that I have at home but the neighbouring table ordered sandwiches as well as it looked pretty decent portion wise, hence why not give it a try? Ohyes! Roosevelt is currently having a lunch promo as well! You get a FREE Coffee or Tea when you order the Salad or Sandwiches. I didn’t know it came free till the waiter told me, so yay! I ordered the Moroccan Rosebuds tea (and thought it came as a cup), but they gave me the entire tea pot (so hurray yet again!).

We waited for a lil’ while after our drinks were being served and there you go, my amazing and yummy looking Smoked Ham and Candied Bacon sandwich!

 Smoked Ham Candied Bacon sandwich

Looks good, doesn’t it? It comes together with a serving of fries. Ohyes, I forgot to mention, I asked for no pickled veggies cause I wasn’t a fan, they subb-ed it with lettuce for me instead, so nice of them 🙂

Candied Bacon

A close up of the BACON. I’m sorry, I’m a fan of bacon and anything bacon! Candied Bacon tastes very much like the traditional Bak Kwa, or what the Chinese know as 肉干, but a tad bit sweeter.

We then decided on desserts as well, cause what are girls without desserts?

Churros Waffles

We settled for the Churros Waffles, which are supposedly their new waffles! Thick fluffy buttermilk waffles, sprinkled with brown sugar and a GENEROUS portion of ice cream and a side of Chocolate Sauce. I was quite surprised when I saw the ice cream scoop as I wasn’t expecting such a huge scoop. Nonetheless, it was just right with the portion of waffles that we had.

IMG_2082

A close up for all waffle lovers out there. Baked till perfection, these waffles are to fight for.

Besides the fact that they forgot about the maple syrup till we’re halfway through the waffles, my overall experience at Roosevelt deserves 3 thumbs up! Pricing and presentation wise are really good, so that’s alright. Will definitely head back again once I get my senses back in shape.

Till the next joint.

A.

23012014, Thursday, Chilly Night

So this is the day which I decide to embark on this new journey of food blogging. Well, it’s been highly encouraged by many whom have seen me visiting one haunt to another & occasionally visiting old ones yet again (because I love it). So this marks Day 1 of my journey & I hope that it’ll be a good one. I hope that whoever out there who is reading this, would enjoy whatever I post & that you must know, these thoughts are of my own & may also be thoughts that are influenced by those around me.

So what will this space be about? Well, I will start posting on places that I’ve been to, new & old, past & present & share with you what my thoughts are. I’ve not really blogged in a pretty long time, so don’t mind the lack of updates as I still need some getting used to.

Till next time,
A
